The first stamps were issued 1868. Most stamps were issued in two currencies Groschen
used in the north and Kreuzer used in the south.
During the German-French war 1870-71 stamps were issued for use in Elsass and Lothringen.
These stams are in the French currency (centimes).
From January the first 1872 stamps from Deutsche Reich became the legal stamps for
post service and stamps from Norddeutscher Postbezirk lost postal value.
Stamps of good quality can be difficult to find even most of the stamps from Norddeutscher
Postbezirk are not rare.
The stamps are numbered logical #1 to # 118 from 1938- 1979. From 1980 all stamps
are numbered with the year as the first two figures.
Prices are given for ** = mint and o = used. Prices do allways reflect quality. Prices
for used are for normally canceled stamps. Prices for stamps with a perfect central
cancellation are higher. Examples of ecxellent cancellation can be seen in the illustrations
of the years 1997 to 2000.
