The production of 5 and 10 øre coins ended in 1989 and 25 øre became the smallest cion. Stamps still had values that could be divided by 25 øre, so to give credit in return to customors bying stamps this 5 øre stamp was issued.

At the same time many companies machines for franking ran into a problem as they could only end print values ending with a zero.

In the following periode some companies used their machines for franking by adding a 5 øre stamp to make the correct payment.

It was not a legal methode but most post offices accepted the procedure.
